What to Expect
Welcome to the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, we are glad you are here!
This Guide to the Orchestra is here to help you learn about the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra experience, the performance, and the music, with frequently asked questions.
What to know before you go!
- What should I wear?
There is no dress code for our performances. First and foremost, we want you to enjoy the music! Some love to dress up, others like casual comfort. Whether in jeans or dressed to the nines, come as you are, and you will be welcome!
- Where do I park?
Parking is available for our Season Concerts at the Nittany Parking Deck for an hourly rate. Note that all surface lots on the University Park Campus are reserved. Patrons with mobility impairments may be dropped off in front of the Penn State Music Buildings on Allen Road. Handicap-accessible parking spaces are available in the Nittany Parking Deck. State-issued disability parking placards are required for access to the handicap-accessible parking spaces.
Visit our Venues & Parking page for even more specific details about parking at our concerts and events.
- When should I arrive?
Plan to arrive at the hall 20-30 minutes early to park, find your seats, read about the works, and settle in for a fantastic performance!
- When can I take pictures or videos?
While we don’t allow videos or photos while the musicians are performing, we encourage you to capture photos and videos of your time before and after the performance, or during intermission. During the performance, please silence your phones and any other noise-making devices.
Share your concert experience with us by using #pachamberorchestra on social media!
- When should I clap?
Clap, cheer, and share your enthusiasm when you are moved to do so! For works that have multiple movements (sections of a larger work) listed in the program, applause is typically held until the end of the last movement. If you are uncertain, wait for cues from those around you - our concert super fans will show you the way!
- How long is the concert?
Our concerts are typically around 1 hour and 50 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission. Our Free Family Concert is typically 1 hour, without an intermission.
- Can I bring food or drinks into the concert?
Food and beverages are not permitted in the audience seating area at our concert venues.
- Who is in the orchestra?
The Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra is comprised of around 35 professional musicians who play in four sections: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The instruments featured in each section include:
- Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass
